4th May, Sunday
Amazing stories, I was up before Ralph for the first time since we left. We started packing slowly as we want to leave at about 10.30 for Coronation Beach. Big drive today as it’s about 100kms from Dongara. We are going to be exhausted by the time we get there. :-). The caravan park puts on pancakes for all the residents on a Sunday so we stayed for that. It was a lovely spread and no charge. We are still travelling with Gavin, Rose and Angel (their cute little dog). Hugo and Angel don’t mind each other which is great. I think that at the rate we are travelling we might be in Darwin by Christmas. ;-). A flock of galahs flew across our car and one hit our windscreen on the passenger side. I thought that it was going to come through as they are quite large parrots. I felt really sad though as I do love them and they mate for life. We arrived at Coronation Beach at around lunch time set up camp and did some exploring. There’s not alot here but it’s a great place for fishing and recreation if the weather is good. There is no water or power. The toilets are long drops and are kept clean and no smell. I have an issued with these kind of toilets, so I was happy. :-). The beach is full of seaweed so it was hard to fish. The boys gave it a good go though. Only sad thing for the day is that we ate our last 2 koeksusters, loving made by my sister Debi for our trip xx.
5th May, Monday
It rained all night. We had a lake in front of our caravan and mud everywhere. Not much action today. My computer has gone AWOL l so I couldn’t update this blog.
Coronation Beach
Coronation Beach (WA 1100) is a curving then straight 2 km long sheltered beach with a 100 m wide intertidal platform attached to the southern foreland and the shore parallel reefs continuing north 300-400 m offshore. The reefs result in a relatively calm ‘lagoon’ between the reef and shore (Fig. 4.272). The beach is accessible via 7 km long gravel road from the highway. The relatively steep beach is used to launch boats in the ‘lagoon’ and some boats are moored off the beach. These is an informal camping area at the southern end and 4 WD access to the beach. This is a popular surfing and fishing location with a range of breaks out on the southern reef. The northern half of the beach continues straight in lee of the reef to the southern foreland of the Oakabella Creek mouth.
